Measured Building Surveys

Measured Building Surveys

Measured Building surveys can be a 2D or 3D product; they generally depict building floor plans showing the size and shape of the internal structure and any or all features and openings within. In much the same way as topographic surveys, the level of detail required and the precision of the survey are driven by the client's requirements.

The size and shape of the internal structure can be large or small; Geomatics surveyors have provided measured building surveys in large complex structures such as castles dating back to the Middle Ages to simple large distribution warehouses.

Measured building surveys are often carried out at large scales such as 1:50 meaning that the end result is of high order precision. The surveys are carried out using total stations typically of the following specification, 3 seconds of arc (") in the angular component and 3mm ± 3 parts per million (ppm) in the distance component, hand held distance measuring equipment such as "Disto's" or traditional tape measures made of steel or fibre.

Measurements can be streamed or typed into MBS Floor Plan software loaded onto PDL handsets or laptops enabling the surveyor to view and edit data live on site whilst the survey is in progress. The output can either be as 2D or 3D AutoCAD drawings or hard copy plots.
